The Taylor Made r7 driver is a product of using weighted adjustment screws instead of lead tape. Using lead tape is uglier but as effective in experimenting on how to set up your driver to somewhat control your hook or in most of our cases, slice. This brief explanation should help you understand what all that lead tape is about.
Most wood heads routinely have internal weighting distributed inside the hollow heads. This influences how the ball behaves at impact. This sit up dictates that a ball can fly higher, lower, more left or more right. Correctly placed external lead tape can either accentuate or offset these tendencies.
Player can add lead tape to a wood to increase the overall swing weight without altering the general playing characteristics of a wood. This can be accomplished by placing small amounts of tape uniformly around the head. Commonly, this will be in the form of three small squares of tape strategically located on the back of the head, on the heel and on the toe.
Weight near the heel will assists in creating a slight draw bias – a right to left ball flight for right handers and left to right for lefties. A considerable amount weight near the heel can encourage your amount of hooking, or it can regulate the amount of slicing.
Weight situated on or near the toe will encourage a left to right ball flight. For those who tend to hook the ball, lead tape on the toe will help reduce the amount of hook by slowing down the toe.
